Dinghy Race FUNdraiserSunday, October 12, 2008, at 1300 Hours (1 PM)This fun annual FUNdraiser pits teams of two against each other as they race their dinghies around a mark. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, there is a catch that makes the race a bit more challenging and greatly enhances the entertainment value for the spectators: the oarsman or oarswoman is blindfolded and must row following the directions given by his or her coxswain (team member giving steering/rowing instructions). One-Eyed Mikes, who is sponsoring and managing this year's race, encourages participants and spectators to come in costume (think "pirate"). There will be some awards for costumes! The entry fee for individual teams is only $25/boat. Businesses may sponsor teams for $50/boat. Crews from schooners participating in the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race may enter for free. After the Dinghy Race FUNdraiser, all teams are invited to stay for a cookout and the awards presentation. Race spectators may also enjoy the cookout for $5/person. Proceeds from this fun race benefit the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race. It takes place at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park in Fells Point (1417 Thames Street) and is open to all. We invite you to bring a friend and form a team, or just come to watch! Please call 443.631.1027 to enter a dinghy race team. View the Dinghy Race FUNdraiser flyer. |
